Detailed Itinerary
DAY 1 – AIRPORT / ANURADHAPURA You will be met on arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport by our Walkers Tours representative who will assist you with your luggage and guide you to your vehicle where your personal chauffeur awaits. Transfer from Airport to Anuradhapura. (173 Km-3 hours 53 min approx.) Anuradhapura Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Lankan civilization. The city, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies on the banks of the historic Malwathu River. From the 4th century BC, it was the capital of Sri Lanka until the beginning of the 11th century AD. During this period, it remained one of the most stable and durable centers of political power and urban life in South Asia. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40 km²). Anuradhapura is also significant in Hindu legend as the fabled capital of the Asura King Ravana in the Ramayana. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 2 – ANURADAHAPURA Have breakfast at the hotel. Anuradhapura City tour: You will be able to explore the tallest brick-built stupas of the ancient world. Ruwanweli saya, Abayagiri and Jetawana Dagabas constituted the central edifices of the monasteries, Mahavihara, Abayagiri Vihara and Jetavanarama respectively. Sri Mahabodhi the sacred tree shrine of the Mahaviharaya, planted in the 3rd Century BC remains its vitality and receives veneration of the Buddhist world all year around. Visit the Thuparama Dagaba, the historical Stupa built by King Devanampiyatissa. It has been converted into a circular Chaitya Shrine (Vatadage). Visit the Twin Ponds and the Isurumuniya. DAY 3 – ANURADAHAPURA / POLLONNARUWA Have breakfast at the hotel. Proceed to Polonnaruwa (105 Km-2 hours 15 min approx.) Polonnaruwa, which became the capital of Sri Lanka following the decline of Anuradhapura, was to witness the Sinhalese Buddhist civilization reaching to its greater heights. The vast irrigation network with reservoirs that look like natural in-land seas provided opportunities for sustained epic scales in rice cultivation, during the reign of king Parakramabahu the Great (1153-1186 A.D). At this time, Sri Lanka became known as the Granary of the Orient. As if the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura (437BC-845AD), didn't quench your thirst for other side of the world, here we are in Polonnaruwa, the second capital (846 AD-1302 AD) of Sri Lanka, which in its prime was protected by 6 km of strong encircling walls. Strategically it commanded all the crossings over the longest & largest river of the island, River Mahaweli. Polonnaruwa's extensive & well-preserved ruins offer a fascinating snapshot of ancient Sri Lanka, including some of the finest monuments. City Tour: While on your city tour you will visit many Ruins of royal castles and Buddhist temples: Royal Palace Group, The Quadrangle, the Polonnaruwa Vatadage, (circular relic house), Shiva Devale (Hindu temple), The Alahana Pirivena, Rankot Vihara, Lankatilake, Kiri Vihara, Gal Vihara, Potugal Vihara. DAY 4 – POLLONNARUWA / SIGIRIYA Have breakfast at the hotel. Proceed to Sigiriya. (59 Km-1 hours 15 min approx.) Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple. Located in central Sri Lanka, the Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple is a living Buddhist site that is focused on a series of five cave shrines. Inhabited by forest-dwelling Buddhist monks since the 3rd century BCE, these natural caves have been transformed continuously throughout the historical period into one of the largest and most outstanding Buddhist complexes in the Southern and Southeastern Asian region, showcasing innovative approaches to interior layout and decoration. DAY 5 - SIGIRIYA Have breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Sigiriya Rock fortress. Climb the 5th century rock fortress which is a world heritage site built by king Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The Lion Rock is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, Rampart and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the world renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster. In the evening go on a Jeep safari at the Minneriya National Park. Those who love to witness the grace and appeal of the mighty giants of the jungles-as they mingle and gather in their natural habitat-should certainly make a visit to the Minneriya National Park in Sri Lanka. It is one of the most prominent attractions of the island, visited by locals and tourists alike in great numbers. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 6 – SIGIRIYA / KANDY Transfer from Habarana to Kandy. (94Km-2 hours 35 min approx.) Proceed to Kandy and check in at the hotel. Proceed on a city tour of Kandy. Kandy is the charming hill capital of Sri Lanka and the island’s second largest city. At an elevation of 465 meters above sea level, Kandy is located 129 Km North-East of Colombo. Nestling midst low hills and looped by the Mahaweli River; Kandy is the country’s religious and cultural center and a World Heritage City. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 7 – KANDY / ELLA Have breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from KANDY to Ella. (55 Km-3 hours 45 min approx.) Transfer from KANDY to Ella by train. The Nine Arches Bridge also called the Bridge in the Sky, is a viaduct bridge in Sri Lanka. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. It is located in Demodara, between Ella and Demodara railway stations. The surrounding area has seen a steady increase of tourism due to the bridge's architectural ingenuity and the profuse greenery in the nearby hillsides. Visit the Ravana Caves and Ella Rock viewpoint. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 8 – ELLA / YALA Have breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from Ella to Yala. (220Km-1 hour 20 Min approx.) Yala Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka. The park consists of five blocks, two of which are now open to the public, and adjoining parks. The blocks have individual names such as, Ruhuna National Park (block 1) and Kumana National Park or 'Yala East' for the adjoining area. It is situated in the southeast region of the country and lies in Southern Province and Uva Province. The park covers 979 square kilometers (378 sq mi) and is located about 300 kilometers (190 mi) from Colombo. Yala was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900, and, along with Wilpattu was one of the first two national parks in Sri Lanka, having been designated in 1938. The park is best known for its variety of wild animals. It is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants, Sri Lankan leopards and aquatic birds. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 9 – YALA / MIRISSA Have breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from Yala to the Mirissa. (127Km-2 hours 3 min approx.) Mirissa Mirissa is a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka, located in the Matara District of the Southern Province. It is approximately 240 kilometers (150 mi) south of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 4 meters (13 ft) above the sea level. Mirissa's beach and night life make it a popular tourist destination. It is also a fishing port and one of the island's main whale and dolphin watching locations. Overnight stay at your hotel in Mirissa.

DAY 10 – MIRISSA / GALLE Have breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from Mirissa to the Galle. (42Km-1 hour approx.) Galle Galle is a beautiful city to witness the sun and sand. Galle Harbor was frequented by Chinese and Arabians sailors before the Portuguese occupied Galle in the 16th century. The Dutch captured Galle in 1640 and handed it over to the British in 1796. History reveals that the Chinese Admiral Zheng He, who commanded seven great voyages through the South China Seas and the Indian Ocean between 1405 and 1433, erected a tablet in 1409 in Galle in commemoration of his second visit to Sri Lanka. The trilingual tablet discovered in 1911 has inscriptions in Chinese, Tamil and Arabic languages, suggesting that the Chinese were dealing with a cosmopolitan trading community at that time. City tour: During your city tour you will visit the Galle Dutch Fort which is among the most popular sites in Galle where it attracts those who value archaeological reserves and heritage. It is known as the oldest fort in Asia, named as a world heritage by UNESCO. Inside the fort, travelers can find other attractions such as the Dutch Museum, which contains paintings, pictures and furniture of the Dutch Reformed Church. The fort is built on small peninsula that can be easily accessed from the Galle town. It is the best place to visit during an evening as the picturesque scenery of the sunset can be witnessed at its best. The trilingual inscription is in the National Museum in Colombo and a copy can be found in the Maritime Museum in Galle. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 11 – GALLE/ BENTOTA Have breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from Galle to the Bentota. (70Km-1 hour 9 Min approx.) Go on a boat ride at Madu River. Balapitiya is where one could just sit back and observe how ecology and culture combines under the sun. Cut through the clear water of Madu River – a lifeline of Balapitiya – and head towards Kotu Duwa, the small island housing a temple that dates to ancient Sinhalese kings. Or sail through tunnels of shady mangroves swaying alongside Madu River – hiding an ecological treasure – to witness the tranquility of this bio-diversity hot spot which boasts of reptiles, mollusks and over 70 species of freshwater fish. Then visit the Turtle hatchery. Kosgoda is famous for its turtle hatchery operated by the Wildlife Protection Society of Sri Lanka. Several species of turtles, especially the endangered hawksbill, is protected here. Most vulnerable of all are their eggs which are left uncovered on beaches all around the coast. These eggs are brought to the hatcheries by the fishermen. Visitors are shown the huge tanks filled with newborn but lively hatchlings. After being fed, the hatchlings are taken to the sea and released when they are a few days old. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 12 – BENTOTA / COLOMBO Have breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from Bentota to Colombo. (82Km-1 hour 40 min approx.) Leave for airport in time for the flight out of Sri Lanka. (35km-40min approx.)
